Dear Families and Friends,

Our Halloween celebration was a good combination of delicious treats, a great parade and some scary stories. The photos below show we were also visited by a Mad, Mod Rocker, …great way to start the day – No problem getting down to work after that!

When we weren’t creating costumes or enjoying sweets, we did manage to get a lot of work done as well. Our Math Mindset lesson introduced Pascal’s Triangle to the students. First they worked to fill in the missing numbers and then went on to notice the patterns from the sum of each row, the pattern of the odd numbers, etc. Most mathematicians will agree that Math is about the study of patterns and pattern seeking. We continued with a introduction to a lesson on Fibonacci numbers, a particular sequence of numbers that appear not just in math but in nature, art, architecture, music, poetry, astronomy and others aspects of life as well. We also have mastered double digit multiplication and single digit division- which seem to be more fun and successful if done on a their own small white board.
The fist slide show has some shots of the students working on those lessons.

The class was invited by the 7th graders to come and unlock a breakout box that they designed especially for us! Some of the clues, and there were many, involved French and Spanish words as well – challenging but a fun activity at the end of our day.

Thank you all for generously donating to our Make A Difference Day for the people of Puerto Rico. The cards they made along with the goods you brought in will no doubt make a difference for many. The kids loved being a part of that all school event as well.

I enjoyed my conferences with everyone these past two days. It is so helpful to be able to share areas of strengths, concerns and plan strategies for each student both at school and home.

The second slideshow attached show a special morning when we joined with the Pre-Schoolers to close down the BCD garden for the winter. Some really special friends there.
