Everybody’s eyes keep looking to the sky for snow, but the weather is proving to be unseasonably warm. While this is wonderful for outdoor recess, it’s not so great for getting into the holiday spirit. Fourth grade and the rest of the school are going to change that on Friday when they perform in BCD’s Winter Concert! Everybody has worked very hard to put together a delightful selection of music and we are all looking forward to sharing it with the school community. The performance begins at 1:30 in Fury Hall, and we hope to see as many of you there as possible.
In the classroom, students have been busy snipping snowflakes to decorate our room for the winter season They have also been busy reading The Best/Worst Christmas Pageant Ever in English class. The children have been enjoying the story of how the Herdman children may or may not manage to destroy a perfectly good Christmas pageant. In the past week we have been focusing quite a bit on reading comprehension and will begin percolating ideas for their final chapter writing assignment as we wind down next week before the Winter Break.
In math, the children have just finished their look at time, having taken a quiz on the concepts just today. The students will be exploring a new chapter on geometry concepts, starting with perimeter and area next week. In integrated studies, they have just been introduced to and are having a wonderful time exploring the world of coding. The program that they have been working with uses a lot of well known app and gaming characters, such as Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies, to help present concepts. Working with coding has made integrated studies one of the true highlights of the week as of late.
In social studies, the children are fully engaged in learning the states and their capitols. We have been playing a game where they have been locating the states and their capitols on their maps. It has been great to see the kids, during their free time, continue to quiz each other and try to find the various states and capitols on the maps in our classroom.
During our upcoming final week of classes before the Winter Break we have a lot of ground to cover, but we are looking forward to our class Holiday Party on Friday afternoon. Thank you in advance to the parents who are helping to bring a little holiday cheer to our class before we head off to spend time with friends and family … hopefully with some snow!
