Yesterday, the Fourth Grade class spent a beautiful sunny morning exploring The Fields sculpture park at Omi International Arts Center in Ghent, NY. In conjunction with our study of contemporary public sculpture, the focus of our visit was to see how artists use different materials and processes to express their ideas in the landscape. In particular, we were on a mission to see the playful bronze works of Donald Baechler. His sculptures, that include a totem of toddler-like figures, a giant walking girl, and two happy people bathing in tubs overflowing with water, are part of Omi’s indoor/outdoor summer exhibition, The Crayon Miscellany curated by Julie Ryan. The students are excited to get back into the art studio at BCD to start working on a Baechler-inspired sculpture of their own!
Thanks to Mr. Spitzer for joining us!
