What do Bard College at Simon’s Rock, Berkshire School, Concord Academy, Darrow, Hotchkiss, Middlesex, Miss Hall’s, Northfield Mount Hermon, Putney, and Wilbraham Monson Academy all have in common? They all want students from Berkshire Country Day School to enroll and contribute to the quality of their educational environment and community next year.
Last night, many members of our graduating ninth grade class and their parents, joined by interested students and families from seventh and eighth grade, gathered in Fitzpatrick Hall to listen to and meet representatives from the aforementioned independent New England boarding and day schools and one early college. Also in attendance were representatives from Monument Mountain High School in Great Barrington and Lenox Memorial High School. Each representative spoke briefly about the distinctive attributes of their school and was available to present materials and answer questions.
It is clear to me that the source of our greatest pride in Berkshire Country Day School is found in our students. Smart, engaged, capable, and prepared – each has met with success and achievement in the classroom, on our teams, in arts ensembles, and as involved club participants and classmates. As individuals, each has found their voice, approached learning and life with integrity, acquired the skill of being a self-advocate, and has a good sense of who they are and what they want to pursue. Because each of our students has experienced how they are a part of a larger group experience, each understands the value of community. I am confident in their potential to meaningfully contribute to their next school environment.
We are privileged to have these outstanding secondary schools eager to meet and engage with our students and their families. And, there are many other schools that had hoped to attend last night. Their interest in our students reflects the quality of a Berkshire Country Day School education. While a full and exciting year lies ahead in the life of these BCD students, Carmen Dockery Perkins, the faculty, and I stand behind each one of them. We are prepared to offer our best efforts as we promote them and assist with the process as they contemplate and plan for the next step in their educational journey.
