Valentine’s Day, then Alaska Day, and finally the 100th Day of School – this was a week filled with unique events!

First, Valentine’s Day: the children first delivered and then opened and read all the valentine cards and wishes their classmates had made for them. They wrote their thoughts on what love is (now displayed on the bulletin board) and learned to fingerspell L-O-V-E. We had a wonderful class party. Thank you to all those who sent in food or decorations, and a big thank you to those who came and helped: Wendy, Deb, Ken, Lisa, Alex, Amanda, and Carmen! Thank you (again) to Wendy who brought in craft projects. Our party was a super fun event!

Alaska Day was the next highlight. Happy children got to play traditional Alaskan games, sled down the hill, do snow-paintings, eat s’mores, try snow shoeing, and more. The weather was beautiful and all enjoyed being outside. Thank you to Paige and Julianne for the delicious fresh fruit and blueberry scones. We enjoyed every morsel!

Thursday held an unexpected event, as the kindergarten was visited by a “stinky teacher” – yes, me. In case you haven’t heard, my home was sprayed by a skunk Wednesday night, and I had no idea how “fragrant” I was when I arrived at school Thursday morning! The class, of course, loved this story, so we wrote a class book about it and illustrated it as well. You’ll find it in the blue folders. Enjoy!

Friday was the 100th Day of School. Everyone brought in their collections, ranging from rubber bands to postcards to pipe cleaners – and everything else in between. The children worked on a writing entitled, “What will you look like when you are 100 years old?”, they made necklaces with 100 beads, we read special stories, and we wrote out a googolplex (the number 1 followed by 100 zeroes) to see how long it would be. It was a fun way to end the week!

We welcome a new student on Monday, Tosh Hearst. Her mother is Lana Hearst. I’ll send home phone numbers and address next week.

The book order deadline has been extended through next week.

There’s no school next Monday and Tuesday. Enjoy the long weekend!
