Nine upper school students have been rehearsing Ionesco’s absurd play “Rhinoceros’ for the past three weeks at Winthrop Theater. The play shows the “struggle of the individual to maintain his integrity and identity alone in a world where all others have succumbed to the ‘beauty’ of brute force, natural energy, and mindlessness.” Funny and frightening, the production poses questions relevant to contemporary teenagers. We have set it in the sixties when it was written and are having fun with sets and costumes. Our first set build went great, especially since so many parent volunteers showed up to saw, hammer, hang, and support! Continuing the tradition of challenging our Upper School students with quality material, the production performs Saturday, November 5th at 2PM and 7PM and Sunday November 6th at 2PM. Come to the Winthrop, BCD’s excellent performance space, and be inspired by the remarkable talents and accomplishments of our theatre ensemble.
