Dear Parents,
The children are really embracing our study of Colonial Times. Our trip to Sturbridge Village was a great learning experience and lots of fun. There is a slideshow posted below.
They recently completed a Venn Diagram comparing Colonial Times with life today including those things that are still the same. For things from Colonial Time some of their responses included: uncomfortable beds. blacksmiths, looms and ox carts. From today: rock stars, electronic games, cars, hot chocolate and legos, and for things that are still the same: hard work, fun times, love, friends, bugs, apples, plants and snow! Great ideas for sure.
We are looking forward to welcoming Grandparents and friends to the school tomorow. Please don’t forget to pack a lunch for your family visitor. Student with siblings in older classes will join them for lunch and we will all meet up for Assembly after lunch. Please send in any and all dismissal plans for that afternoon to me by note or email, it helps make for a smoother end of day!
Our first 2nd grade spelling test won’t be until next Friday, the 18th. The students have two weeks to work on these 20 words using y as a vowel or a consonnant. Last week’s spelling list is in this week’s packet, you can keep it or recycle it. In Math class we’re going to do a little Place Value work before we break for fractions, they are ready for it!
Also, Mountain Day is next Thursday the 17th. Please only sneakers or hiking boots that day, no rain boots or slip-on shoes. The kids chose Mountain Day as their favorite October event, after Halloween of course, when making their calendars and I’d have to agree with them there.
Enjoy the long weekend,
Katharine
