Third Graders this week were busy as meerkats (suricata suricatta) in and around the library. With clues placed around the library and the BCD campus, students scrambled to solve the mystery of the new library helper (a currently un-named meerkat) while simultaneously reaquainting themselves with different parts and sections of the library.  After discovering the newest member of the library family, we employed the KWL strategy (what we know, what we want to learn, and what we have learned) in reading a non-fiction text about suricata suricatta, and discussing the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts. Our class concluded with a book browse and check-0ut, with books due back in about 2 weeks.
