Dear Families,
We had a wonderful trip to Hancock Shaker Village on Monday. We got to pet animals, walk around the circular barn and look inside the home of people who lived long ago on this beautiful farm. A lady dressed like a Shaker sang “Twinkle, twinkle little star” with us and “Tis a Gift to be Simple.” It sounded lovely echoing through the old rooms.
Our caterpillars are still and encapsulated in chrysalises which we have hung from the top of our butterfly tent. We wonder what they might be dreaming or thinking or feeling as they change invisibly.
We studied the beautiful patterns of butterfly wings and made our own lovely, symmetrical prints inspired by their wings. We noticed that symmetrical prints are like mirror images – a perfect reflection. We thought about other places we have witnessed symmetry: the bodies of spiders, webs, snowflakes, our own faces and bodies and when we look at a flower.
We got to sing to our new maple trees and tie flags to protect them on Arbor Day. We also got to see a wonderful production of The Lorax put on by the kindergarten and 1st grade classes.
On Friday we baked bread and walked through the woods. So many treasures! Water rushing through the brooks, tiny yellow and white flowers in the fields, green grass carpeting the woodland paths and a snake that stopped long enough for us to see its bright red tongue and beautiful yellow and gray scales.
Please check to find an invitation for a Mother’s Day breakfast in your child’s backpack. Next Thursday, between 8 and 9 please stop by to celebrate with The B3s and Pre-k class.
Wishing you all the best!
Sarah
