This week in the library, second graders visited Morocco. AFter learning a bit about the geography and culture of this African country, we shared two folktales. The first was Shelley Fowles’ vividly illustrated adaptation, The Bachelor and the Bean, and the second was a traditional North African story, The Woman Who Ran With The Gazelles. The students were able to compare and contrast these stories, and noted the common threads that the second story had with some popular fairy tales such as Snow White and Rapunzel.

After placing their Africa stamp and stickers in their passports, the students browsed and checked out books. Happy Reading!
