Animal Study of Snails:

By the end of the unit, students will know…

  • Snails have distinct body parts, including the foot, shell, four antennae, eyes, tongue (called the radula).
  • Snails use two antennae for seeing and two antennae for feeling and sensing.
  • Snails produce slime to help them move.
  • Snails use muscular body contractions to move.
  • Snails need air, water and food to survive. A snail’s habitat provides all these things.
  • Snails are nocturnal.
  • Snails have limited eyesight and no hearing.
  • Snails need calcium to grow their shells.
  • A snail’s shell is attached to its body.
