The preschoolers were treated to an autumnal theme in the library, celebrating books about pumpkins. We began with a non-fiction selection, The Pumpkin Circle, a bug-and-bird’s eye view of sprouting seeds, blooming flowers and buzzing bees. After nearly 100 days of weather and care, the amazing growing cycle is complete. Author and filmmaker, George Levenson is also a pumpkin grower and best known for his production on the widely acclaimed film, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. Next we took a fanciful step into Pumpkin Soup, a story in verse about a cat, duck and squirrel who discover the ups and downs of friendship while learning what really makes pumpkin soup taste so good. We ended on an artistic note with painter Wendell Minor’s delightful range of colorful and glowing pumpkins in Pumpkin Head, as well as book browsing and check-out. Books are due back on November 6. Happy Reading!
