Pre-K students visiting the library this week made connections to each other and the world around them.

The point of departure for our activities today was our observation that all books have some things in common (titles, covers, pages) and differences (color, length, content). Similarly, people share similarities and differences as well. We noticed this as we read our first book, Patti Stren’s charming story, Hug Me, about a porcupine who yearns for a hug. After many unsatisfying years hugging traffic lights and telephone poles, Elliot the porcupine sets out to the woods where he meets another lonely porcupine, the homely but friendly, Thelma Claypits. The two realize that they both need a hug and a friend.

Our second book for sharing was We Are All Alike…We Are All Different, a book written and illustrated by the Cheltenham Elementary School Kindergarten. Student drawings and texts illustrated for us the connections we have with each other and how our differences make the world more interesting.

We concluded by making bookmarks for our books at home. Happy Reading!
