Today in the library, Pre-K explored the theme of peace. We began by sharing what things or ideas are peaceful to us, and our peaceful wishes for the new year. We built upon this theme by enjoying Let There Be Peace on Earth and Let It Begin With Me, a literary adaptation of the classic peace anthem written by Sy Miller and Jill Jackson in 1955. With luminous illustrations by award-winning artist, David Diaz, this picture book uses an array of cultural symbols for peace from Japan, China, Cuba, East Africa, Scandanavia and Tibet. The children loved “hunting” for the symbols on each page, and were able to locate all of them! Happy holidays and happy reading from the library. See you in 2011!
