Dear Parents,
As you probably have already heard, Theatre Class has begun for 2nd grade this week! They are thrilled to be back working with Mrs. Brentano. I particularly enjoy their descriptions of the theatre warm-up games they play.
In Social Studies class we are practicing our recitation of the I Have a Dream speech for our Lower School Assembly devoted to the theme of Courage next week. Although some of the vocabulary is challenging, it is accessible and has been very enlightening and provided much rich material for class discussion. Although I do not expect the students to memorize their parts, we have worked so that they are familiar with reading them and confident of their meaning. I will send home copies of their parts for those who would like to practice at home, but it is not necessary. Next week we will begin our unit study of Mexico!
In Math class we continue to work on reading the clockface and learning about elapsed time. Any practice you can include at home ( What time is it now? What time will it be in 20 minutes?) would be very helpful.
Our spelling quiz this week will be on last week’s unit of the oi/oy diphthong sound. The list (enjoy, coin, moist, etc.) is on Spelling City. I’m always happy to hear from students who are using the program at home, it is a great reinforcement tool of the current spelling words.
Our Valentine’s Party may have been a week late, but it was lots of fun. The cards were lovely and a good time was had by all. I’m out of room on my fridge which is now covered with my lovely cards! Thank you parents for our goodies, the light-up Valentine’s balloons were a big hit too.
I will Vimeo their speech at the Courage Assembly next week and attach it to next week’s blog. Thanks for making sure everyone has hats and gloves. They have been a real must this week.
I look forward to those of you that are able to make it to conferences next week. If those times don’t work for you, just let me know and we can schedule something that does.
Best,
Katharine
