Dear All,

The peacemaker reports were wonderful! I particularly appreciated the thought and attention every student paid to their subject and the help they received at home. Everyone presented with great solemnity and we all learned a lot. We learned that Dr. Schweitzer believed in Reverence for Life, that the Dalai Lama believed that compassion was the source of a happy life, that Ghandi did not believe in eating animals, that Alfonso Robles’ nickname was ‘Mr. Disarmament’, the terms apartheid and segregation, and that Mandela’s prison guards could not break his spirit along with many other things.

We are going to have a major desk/cubby clean out today and tomorrow. Hopefully you will start the new year with all the gloves and hats that get sucked into the ‘cubby vortex.’

Tomorrow morning instead of a spelling quiz we will visit the Kindergarten and share our Peace poems with them. Mrs. Patel and I plan on getting the Peer Reading program started up in the new year so this will be a good introduction between the classes.

I’m planning a small Holiday Party at the end of the day where we can exchange the cards we’ve made for each other and enjoy some special snacks. Thanks to all who are contributing to that end.

Below are the videos of the class reading their Peace poems. Enjoy them and your time with your families this holiday season.

I wish you all peaceful New Year.

Katharine
