Today in the library, Second Grade explored the BCD winter theme of PEACE. We began by sharing the book, Peace, Salam, Shalom. This universal landscape of words and images, and presented in English, Arabic and Hebrew, by author and educator Howard Bogart combines with Norman Gorbaty’s lush images to create an opportunity for us to touch upon our ideas of what peace means to each of us. Next, each child made a wax-resist dove, using crayons and watercolors. These doves will be displayed on a bulletin board in the library as a symbol of our readers’ commitment to peace in the new year. We concluded with book browsing and check out.
