Food – why our bodies need it, who doesn’t have it, what hunger feels like, taking care of those who might not have enough, and creating our annual Friendship Lunch – occupied our time over the last few weeks. On. Nov. 11 we met with the Preschool and talked about hunger. This was the kickoff to our Annual Food Drive, which took place this week. Children brought in food every day. On Monday we will sort the food and add up the total weight. It will then be collected and taken to a local food bank on Tuesday. Thank you all so much for your participation and support of this project.

We had a wonderful Friendship Lunch last Tuesday with the Preschool. On Monday, Mr. Frantz came and read Stone Soup to us. Afterwards, the children made corn muffins, homemade butter, dessert, and place mats, rotating through al four stations. On Tuesday, we were joined by many parent helpers (with a special thank you to Wendy O’Neil!), who helped set the table, cook and serve meatballs and spaghetti, and clean up. The children sat at one very long table and we shared a wonderful meal with our Preschool friends. It is always a great event.

We visited the Dakota Restaurant and saw their collection of Native American artifacts, including a birchbark canoe, a white buckskin wedding dress, and several examples of pottery. The children had many questions. Afterwards, the Dakota graciously served lunch to all of us. Thank you to Carmen Dockery-Perkins and Auntee Gail (Charles’ aunt) for accompanying us!

We also send a big thank you to Becky Carmel, who came and spoke to the class about food allergies. Again, the children were attentive listeners and had many good questions.

We are looking forward to Thanksgiving Soup next Tuesday, and wish everyone a happy holiday!
