Pajama Day rocked! Everyone arrived at school on Tuesday snug in their jammies, and we had a fun and cozy day. We began with a special Morning Meeting with the Preschool and read bedtime stories together. Then everyone split into small groups and we had a five-station rotation. Activities included making pictures of the night time sky using glow-in-the-dark stars stickers, playing a star toss game, having a turn in the darkened tent playing with flashlights, making a planet pillow, and making a necklace using glow-in-the-dark beads. We shared hot chocolate and popcorn at snack time.

I will attempt to send a link to a slide show (please let me know if it doesn’t work and I’ll try again).

One of our math activities this week was to taste salty, sweet, and sour foods (pretzels, grapes, pickles) and make a graph showing our favorites. Sweet won (not much of a surprise there!) We’ve been doing a lot of counting – forwards, backwards, by fives and by tens – and each child has just begun to memorize his or her phone number. It would be great if you can reinforce that at home. Don’t forget to include the area code!

Earlier in the week, everyone write a piece for Martin Luther King Day inspired by the book Martin’s Big Words by Doreen Rappaport. These writings are up on our bulletin board – come and take a look. The class did an excellent job.

Upcoming major events include Valentine’s Day (February 14) and Alaska Day (February 16). More information will be coming next week via email, so stay tuned.

Thank you all for my birthday cards, wishes and gifts last week. I had a lovely day, and your children looked so adorable in black-and-white!
