Dear Fourth Grade Parents,

It was a pleasure seeing you on Back-to-School Night! One of the highlights of the night was introducing Mental Muscle Madness, and the kids were excited to learn more about this challenge the next day in class. So far, about half the class has begun to earn squares for practicing their facts and doing fun math-related activities outside of the classroom. Computer games, board games, dice games, baking and creating your own math worksheets for the class are happening in this group, and the excitement for connecting math with daily life is growing. Please use the sheet I gave you if you need creative ideas to incorporate math into family time at home.

Here’s how you can foster your student’s growth in math this year:

1. Encourage your child to participate in MMM. Even simple activities like flash cards, skip counting in the car and math apps on your phone help! You can play with them, too!

2. Let me know every few days (or more often!) how many squares your child has earned. Send me an email or write a note in the planner with your initials. The students are eager to color in their squares!

3. There is no limit to number of squares your child can earn. We had several students last year who earned hundreds of squares!

4. Remind your child that as adults, we use math every day!

Cheers!

Jilly
