Today in the library, Kindergarten shared two folktales. We began by discussing what tales are and some of the common characteristics of tales. The students came up with these traits: short in length, have a hero, can have animals and the ending teaches you something. Next, we read two tales together. The first, The Clever Boy and the Terrible, Dangerous Animal, by Idries Shah, is a Sufi tale that weaves the story of a boy who helps a village overcome its fear of something they have mistaken for a dangerous animal. The second, Lily Toy Hong’s Two of Everything, is a Chinese folktale about the blessing and curse of having everything you want. The students enjoyed both tales with their beautiful illustrations.

We concluded with book browsing and checkout.
Happy Reading!
