Kindergarteners started this past trimester off with a unit on Air. They learned that air has weight and takes up space and that wind is the movement of air.

Warm air rises.

Students loved using these simple "kites".

Students also continued their study of shadows. Each month since September, students have gone outside and traced their shadows on big pieces of paper. In May we put all those shadow pictures next to one another and noticed that our shadows grow and shrink over the course of the year. Students also spent a lot of time outside this Spring going on nature walks, sketching wildflowers, and learning about local birds.

Students did observational drawings of flowers ...

... and then dissected them.

There's a happy scientist!

Students were also given a few classes to engage in “Inventor’s Workshop” – a time to build freely with a variety of materials. Students could work solo or within a group. There was so much creativity!

The simpliest materials can yield the most amazing creations.

A horse!

We go through a lot of duct tape!
