After a cold couple of weeks in SESL (our science lab), the children have started to hear water dripping off the eaves of the building – a sign that Spring must be coming our way.

Kindergarten

The Kindergarteners are finishing up their unit on ball and ramps. We had a fun time last week comparing the “bounciness” of balls. First we looked at the two different ways we could measure bounciness (height of bounce and number of bounces) and then collected some data. We also discussed why some balls were bouncier than others (shape, size, weight, material). In the end we were able to put our information into a graph:

Weighing balls to see if heavier ones move faster

From a few weeks ago:

Students measure to see how far their cars have rolled

The cars that rolled on the wood went farther.

Friction caused cars on the rug to not travel as far.

Comparing distances traveled...

... and lining them up in order.
