Dear Parents,
This week has been a fun mixture of time-telling, reviewing place value, Mexican map making, sharing book reports, reading and writing about Hill of Fire and the Mexican volcano of 1943. Mrs. Clausen’s slide show of her trip to Mexico and the very town where Hill of Fire takes place was an extra bonus.
The students have grasped the purpose of keeping journals over the break and I’m glad to hear some entries have already begun. Again, I think it’s important for them to keep in the habit of writing, especially personal observations, over the break. Souvenirs are welcome as well – best if they can be taped into the journal.
The work packets that are going home today are particularly jam-packed as they represent about 2 weeks worth of work and then some. I know once the break comes it may be the last thing they want to look at, but I hope there is some time they can share some of it with you. It enriches their learning when they revisit and explain the thoughts and processes that went into its completion.
Tomorrow Mr. Perkins with help from Dr. L have put together a celebration of Pi Day, 3/14. There will be skits, activities and songs in the gym for all of lower and middle school. Happy Pi Day to all!
I have rescheduled the date for Fiesta celebration in 2nd grade to Friday, May 2nd at 11:30. It will start with their dance and songs presentation in the gym, then we will come back to the classroom for a Mexican feast and they will present their research projects on different aspects of Mexican culture.
