I write to welcome everyone as we begin a wonderful new school year at BCD, to share news about our campus renovations, and to relay information about a staffing change. But first, the big news is: forty-six new students (and 26 new families) will be joining our school community this year. Tomorrow morning at 8 a.m., we will be opening our doors to 207 students! Special thanks go to Director of Admission Amy (Broberg) Freeman for her efforts and many successes in this area.
A flurry of activity has occurred on campus during the past few weeks, including the following major projects. The roofs have been replaced on Albright Hall and Fitzpatrick Hall. Ryan Hall (home to our Upper School homerooms, several classrooms, and our Physics and Film labs) has undergone a complete makeover with new paint, flooring, and cubbies. New carpet was installed in Peterson Hall classrooms, and countless additional exterior renovations and repairs occurred. A heartfelt thanks goes to Larry Bingham and Dan Lee for their hard work and leadership of these projects.
Recently, graphic designer Jenny Wright announced that she would be leaving BCD to accept a new position in Pittsfield. Jenny’s family is growing, she is expecting the arrival of her first child in March and her new job is much closer to home. However, all is not lost! We are pleased to share that Jenny will continue to work for BCD as an independent graphic design contractor during the coming months. Requests for technical assistance should be made to Director of Communications Maxine Carter-Lome.
We are excited to announce that John Neiner will teach our Graphic Design classes and lead the yearbook project this year. John, a graphic designer from Pittsfield, impressed us with his experience, energy, and background working with teenagers. He currently works at Pixel Graphic Design Studios and is the father of three young boys. Please join us in welcoming him to BCD.
As always, please be in touch with your child’s teachers or advisors with any questions or special communications. Associate Heads Paul Frantz and Carmen Dockery Perkins and I also stand ready to assist you in any way.
Until tomorrow,
Paul
