Dear Families,
In a week when spring was blossoming outside, we celebrated the great love and gratitude we have for Mothers. The children worked hard on many layered collages for their Moms and shared with each other the multitude of special gifts mothers bring to our lives like making hot chocolate on snowy days, having pretty hair, singing with beautiful voices, making delicious food, reading stories, playing, snuggling, hugging, kissing and providing so much love and care!
It was fun to gather with Mothers (and a father) for a special celebration with Pre-k to break bread, sing songs, dance and laugh together in the library. Thank you Mrs. Hilliard for all the special songs, games and flowers!
What I have noticed lately in our class is how often I am able to sit quietly and observe this community of children create wonderful games and imaginative stories using a huge range of props, art supplies, furniture, and parts of of the class to support play. The need for adult intervention of any kind is rare! Ideas are shared, problems negotiated and solutions found over and over. This is one of the most obvious and wonderful signs of growth in this group – the amazing exchange of ideas, processing of events outside our class, collaboration, imagination and loving friendship that they share with each other. They inspire and teach one another and themselves every day!
Our chrysalises continue to hang silently. I am a little worried! And hope very much that somebody emerges soon.
Wishing you all the best on this lovely day and sending gratitude for all the ways you love and support these beautiful children.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Sarah
