In October, I blogged about the journey of our 8th and 9th grade students, BCD’s Upper School science teachers, and members of the BCD graduating class of 1976 as they sailed the Sloop Clearwater.  To honor the life of BCD alumnus Jamie Kapteyn (‘76) and his passion for rivers and conservation, The James C. Kapteyn Endowment for Environmental Studies was created in 2010 by his friends and fellow BCD classmates and funded this rare and relevant experience.

The annual proceeds from the James C Kapteyn Endowment for Environmental Studies will be used to underwrite this meaningful trip each year.  In this way, this legacy gift will educate future generations of children, honor BCD’s core value of sustainability, and honor the memory of Jamie and his passion for environmental studies and water conservation.

Gratefully, we acknowledge Ben Barrett ’76 for making this video project happen, and we thank all of Jamie’s classmates, family members, and friends for sustaining Jamie’s memory with this significant gift to generations of BCD students.
