Dear Parents,
Thank you all again for coming to, cooking and dancing for the Fiesta! It made it extra special for the kids. I’ve posted a few shots from last Friday below, but I’m sure they can’t compare with some of your shots (although I’m particularly fond of the one showing the lego/beverage cart.) Also depicted in the slide show is our visit to the 6th grade where we shared our reports and enjoyed some chips and salsa on Cinco de Mayo! I saved the pinata for that same Monday and there are some shots of that as well.
In Social Studies we will end the year concentrating on listening to, discussing and writing creation myths in the style of Native Americans, such keen observers of the natural world.
We are also about to begin the final piece of our Social Curriculum, Compassion. To that end, we will travel to Kimball Farms next week and spend some time talking with and interviewing some of the people in the Assisted Living program there.
In Math we’re having fun learning to measure different parts of our bodies and explore body ratios. Did you know that your height is equal to about 3 times your head measurement ?- a great example of a 3:1. We will also have time to work on multiplication as well in these last weeks.
There will not be a spelling list for next week, instead we will work on reviewing the 7 kinds of syllables. However, all of the words we have studied since January and the corresponding games are still posted on Spelling City and just waiting for some 2nd graders to play them! A great review anytime.
There are also some pictures of our good-bye party for Ms. Wrightson, including a twister game using French colors and some treats.
