Hi Everyone,

We wanted to give you a peek into our adventures of the day.  During Morning Meeting, we learned that Mrs. Atwater’s cousin, Dr. Atwater, was coming to visit the classroom.  He is a paleontologist at a nearby University.  Mrs. Atwater knew that the children were going to be exploring dinosaurs, so she shot him an email and invited him for our Morning Meeting today.  Sadly, Mrs. Atwater was called away to a meeting upstairs and missed his visit.  He arrived, larger than life, carrying a canvas bag filled with paleontology tools.  He also spoke with a strange European accent.  Dr. Atwater asked the children what they did know about dinosaurs.  Many of them know quite a bit.  He then brought them to the Pre K space, where the Pretend Area and the Science Area had been transformed into a dig site and a Paleontology Lab!  He modeled how the “delicate tools” were to be used and the bones uncovered in the sand box and how they should be cleaned and brought back to the lab for further study.  He then showed the children the new dinosaur puzzles, games and toy dinosaurs.  He also talked about how we should play with the dinosaurs so that everyone stays safe.  Soon enough, it was time for him to go and it was time for the children to prepare for morning snack.  No sooner did the children sit down to eat, when Mrs. Atwater returned from her meeting.  She was very sad that she had missed her cousin’s visit.  She was pleased to hear all of the things he had shared with the children, as well as the fact that he agreed to return in a few weeks to visit again.  It was a very exciting morning!  We hope you enjoy these pictures of his visit:
