Our week was filled with lots of new activities and experiences.  Scissors, glue, stories, and a birthday!  The weather has been chilly, and we all need to have a coat or vest to keep us warm as we go outside everyday.  Ruby turned 4 on Wednesday and we had her mom, Wendy and sister Emme visit and share family photos and stories.  Ruby’s classmates all colored a birthday balloon for a special Birthday Book that was given to Ruby.  At snack we shared yummy strawberries that Ruby brought in to share.

On Tuesday scissors were introduced in small groups.  All of  the children had a turn and cut some plain paper to learn the proper grip and positioning of their hands.  We will continue to use scissors in small groups as we all get more familiar with them.  Please feel free to practice with scissors at home.

Windy Wednesday was a great day to fly a kite!  The children had fun flying colorful kites in gym class with Mrs. Heady and Mrs. Piasecki.  We then all gathered for our class picture on the picnic bench.  The sun was out and we all enjoyed running after leaves on the playground.

Thursday we prepared for Grandparent/Friends Day by making some special decorations with our leaves for our special guests.  We worked in small groups with ‘gooey glue’ (white glue) to glue our leaves on colorful construction paper.  Some children made dinosaurs, a lion was made, as was a giraffe, and even a ladder!  We will continue to explore gooey glue over the next few weeks.

During the next few weeks, Preschool will have guest readers from the BCD community.  We encourage you to read to your child everyday.  This will help to build a life long love of reading.  During regular class time the children are read to for at least 15 minutes.  We read books that are connected to our current theme or unit and we also include classics and new literature.  Please feel free to ask for title or topic suggestions to read about at home.
