As much as the BCD community loves its long-standing traditions such as Thanksgiving Soup, Ski Fridays, and Grandparents’/Grandfriends’ Day, new events can become traditions, too. Community Campus Day is one such example.
The first Community Campus Day was held in October of 2008 and was spearheaded by Larry Bingham and Margaret Lindenmaier. It was initially created as a way for community members to support the needs of our campus by coming together to work on special projects. Over 80 parents, Trustees, faculty members and students showed up for that first Community Campus Day to help restore the information kiosk, put up a fence, winterize buildings, rake leaves, and build a new sandbox. A feeling of camaraderie and accomplishment made this a special day, and everyone who was a part of it knew Community Campus Day was destined to become a new BCD tradition. This year, the projects were bigger and better and despite the day being postponed due to weather, community members still turned out on subsequent weekends to get the projects done.
Community Campus Day is a great way to give back to our beautiful campus and preserve it for future generations of BCD students.
What a nice day, can’t wait for this years! It was really wonderful to roll up our sleeves and make a noticeable difference to are already beautiful campus. Also, I thought it was a great way to spend time with parents, faculty and students.
