It was lively in the library today as Kindergarten met the acquaintance of Mr. Putter and his cat, Tabby. In award-winning author Cynthia Rylant’s Mr. Putter series, there is always an adventure ahead for Mr. Putter, Tabby, their beloved neighbor Mrs. Teaberry and her mischevious dog, Zeke. In Mr. Putter and Tabby Catch A Cold, Mr. Putter is nursed back to health by Zeke who shuttles back and forth from Mrs. Teaberry’s to Mr. Putter’s bearing the tried remedies of soup and peppermint tea with honey in thermoses on his back. In Mr. Putter and Tabby Walk the Dog, Mr. Putter is left to dog-sit Zeke and must think of creative ways to get him to behave. Apparently, Zeke loves a hot-fudge sundae with extra cherries…and in Mr. Putter and Tabby Feed the Fish, we learn that fish make Tabby very twitchy with excitement. So much so, that despite Mr. Putter’s attempts to protect the fish (pillowcase and bucket), Tabby cannot control herself and the fish are happily adopted by Mrs. Teaberry. Her dog, Zeke, has no such reaction to goldfish. There are many, many more books in this delightful set of short chapter books and Kindergarten was howling at the antics of these lovable characters. We concluded with book browsing and check out. Happy Reading!
