If you have been on campus lately, then you know that construction is well underway on the Kevin Hirt Library and Learning Commons and the Kim and James Taylor Music and Performance Room projects in Furey Hall. At this time, we anticipate moving in this winter!
I delight in giving tours of these new spaces and imagining with our faculty, students, families, and friends how they will transform teaching and learning at Berkshire Country Day School for generations to come. Associate Head of School Leigh Doherty is assembling a committee of teachers to build on our design processes and intentionally plan for the transition and use of the new Learning Commons as a component of our comprehensive curriculum.
Our new music teacher Charlie Martin is eager to join all of our students as we move into the new music and performance space, an environment which will cultivate and demonstrate the musical abilities and creativity of all of BCD’s students. We can also look forward to attending assemblies, performances, speakers, and more.
And, studio arts teachers/artists Sasha Sicurella and Max Spitzer are excited about returning to the painting/drawing and sculpture/mixed media studios in Furey Hall. With newly created southern exposure to the BCD campus and Learning Commons below, these studios will be filled with new light and inspiration. (A special thanks to Campaign Associate Jessica Provenz for creating the following slideshow.)
Fulfilling the Promise: The Campaign for BCD is also enlarging our endowment for faculty salaries. Our faculty is 100% dedicated to the value of a BCD education, and supporting this dedicated and creative group is a top priority. It is wonderful to report that the Campaign has already contributed more to faculty salaries this year!
We have had 400 individual donors generously contribute over $2.91 million for the Campaign. As we near our $3 million goal, we as a community are collectively fulfilling the promise to our students, our faculty, our families, and the broader Berkshire and Columbia County communities. Thank you again for all you do for BCD. I look forward to celebrating our shared successes throughout the year.
