Dear Families,

Despite the weather the grade 1-2 students have a spring in their step! In science we have begun a bird study. We played a fun game of bird Fact or Fiction to help the children learn some basic facts and misconceptions. One of the computers in our classroom is set to a “Bird Cam” at Cornell University which allows us to observe, in real time, the nest of two red-tailed hawks.

This week, we had our second session of Peer Reading with the fourth graders, who graciously come to our room on Thursday afternoons to listen to our students read. Each fourth grader is matched up with one or two children. This provides our students with an opportunity to read aloud to someone other than one of us. In May, you will have the opportunity to listen to your own child read one of his/her original stories at one of our two Authors’ Teas. Information and invitations to be delivered in the next few weeks.

Enjoy the slideshow below that includes pictures of Peer Reading, science work, and counting the estimation jar items.

Thank you to all who provided snacks for the classroom. We should be set for quite some time.

All the best,
Katharine and Kay
