In the tradition of a true Literary Salon, on Wednesday night the Parents’ Association hosted its first Salon of the year, featuring great literature, stimulating conversation, wine and spirits, and sparkling company in a warm and gracious home!

Our sincere thanks to The World of Tomorrow author and Lenox resident Brendan Mathews for sharing his expressive, rich novel set during one week in June 1939 and for fielding questions about his seven-year journey from idea to publication. We also extend our gratitude to Matt Tannenbaum of Lenox’s The Bookstore for his enthusiastic introduction of Brendan’s book and whose stories enliven any evening. Matt is generously giving 20% of book proceeds from the Salon to BCD to support our School’s library collection. We thank our inviting and extraordinary hosts, Stephanie Iverson and Colin Mathews, who graciously opened their historic home recalling a time when another literary icon of Lenox (Edith Wharton) hosted such vibrant and dynamic evenings.

Finally, we thank the PA’s Speaker Series’ committee – Elizabeth Powell, Natacha Dockery Livak, Josh Weisbuch, Wendy Benjamin, Terri Sash, Andrea Gerber, Jessica Provenz, and Leigh Doherty – for creating this lovely, memorable night for the current parents, past parents, prospective parents and trustees who braved the elements!

Next in our series is Speaker Stephen Brand, an expert in fostering “out of the box” thinking in children on Tuesday, February 13. On Wednesday, April 11 we will welcome filmmaker, global activist, and BCD parent Christina Lowery, who will present excerpts from her film, “Girl Rising.”

The Salon Series highlight the talents and rich experiences of our parents and their connections for members of BCD’s adult community, area parents and educators, and prospective families. Invited guests are asked to provide a brief presentation or lecture on a subject of interest to our adult community, followed by a Q&A. This free series is open to our parent community and invited guests and is held 2-3 times a year at a BCD parent’s home or an establishment off-campus, where refreshments are served.
