I write to share the exciting news that two Eighth Grade students, Ayva S. and Ruby M., recently received the Make a Difference Award from the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. Each year, this award is given to 100 students in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in recognition of their exemplary service and contributions to their community. On Friday, both girls received the announcement of their award and were invited to a ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in March.
As reported earlier in the year, the girls’ service initiative was the result of a project designed by Eighth Grade History teacher Sarah Pitcher-Hoffman in collaboration with Eighth Grade Integrated Studies teacher Susan Benner. Together, these teachers engaged their students in designing service work projects through the IWitness Video Challenge. To read the blog post about the project, please follow this link:
The video produced by Ayva and Ruby was selected as the winning project in the regional IWitness Video Challenge, and it has been advanced to the national round. Congratulations, Ayva and Ruby!
