This week in Ancient History, Fifth Graders participated in the annual Silk Road Challenge. Students were divided into three caravans and competed in a series of activities to explore the many facets of the Silk Road. Students answered clues and raced to different stations to learn about many items that were exchanged on the Silk Road. They explored the various languages of the regions, read and discussed the basic tenets of Islam, the religion that was spread during the height of the Silk Road, tasted and smelled the spices, and as you can see in the pictures below, created their own silk paintings using a dye and salt technique.
