Families,
Our last week of September was wildly busy, productive, and fun! We are all really entrenched in our learning in every subject. In science, the children learned that the Earth is made of layers: crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core. They had to work cooperatively with a partner to make miniature models of each layer with colorful play dough. We read about plates, magma, and volcanoes. With a partner, they also made volcanoes in the outside sand box. We used a bit of chemistry to simulate the lava eruption. The directions for the experiment went home in case anyone wanted to recreate the experience.
We are practicing our “Sand Story” dance for Grandparents’/Grand Friends’ Day. Each child has a part in the dance. Some are readers, some are musicians, and some are dancers. The story follows a boulder that eventually becomes tiny pieces of sand. We started rocks in our tumbler. It will take about 3 weeks to complete the process. Our salt crystals are growing. Next week we move onto the study of sand and the history of salt.
We have enjoyed getting to know each other through the “Me Boxes.” It is amazing how many new details we now know about our classmates. We are moving on to the study of “Colonial Times.” The careful knowledge and questions about ourselves will help to generate good questions about people of long ago. We are going to Sturbridge Village on Tuesday, October 7th. We will leave at 8:15 and return for dismissal at 2:55. A note with specific instructions concerning bus travel and lunch will be in their backpacks today (Friday). Please read it carefully.
Our first Lunch Bunch was FANTASTIC! It was pancakes with all the toppings, bacon, orange juice, fresh berries, and cupcakes. It is going to be a tough act to follow (not that it is a competition :)) A great big THANK YOU to Theresa, Joe, and Ellen.
It was delicious!
Grandparents’/Grand Friends’ Day will be on Friday, October 10th. There is a master list, but it would be helpful if you could write or email who is coming, where your child will eat lunch, and how are they going home at dismissal. We have some wonderful activities planned and we want to make sure that everyone is where they are supposed to be. It can be a bit hectic, especially for those with several siblings. Your note will help us. Thanks for you support.
Have a glorious weekend!
Fondly,
Ms. Milani and Mrs. Allentuck
