Thanksgiving Soup is an annual all-school event at BCD. You will be hearing it mentioned quite a bit in the week ahead. We have included a basic overview of the event below.
Thanksgiving Soup truly gives our children a warm sense of the Thanksgiving Holiday. This annual BCD tradition began in the mid 1980’s. In the spirit of the “Stone Soup” story, each grade is assigned a soup ingredient to donate. Students bring these ingredients to school on Monday, the designated donation day, and then a group of parent volunteers spend that day transforming these donations into large pots of delicious soup. The next day, parent volunteers serve the students and faculty a meal of hot vegetable soup with orzo pasta, dinner rolls, apple cider and fruit in Fitzpatrick Hall.
Thanksgiving Soup is also a chance for young alumni to visit the school. Up to 100 former students find their way back to BCD for Soup each year, taking the opportunity to reconnect with their classmates and teachers.
This year Thanksgiving Soup will be served Tuesday, November 25 at noon in Fitzpatrick Hall. School will close and the students will be dismissed for the Thanksgiving break at 1 PM. There will not be any after school activities that day.
Thanksgiving Soup is a BCD Parents “All Hands on Deck” event, and it’s a lot of fun. Co-chairs Renee Slonaker, Donna Kittredge, Terri Sash and Natacha Dockery Livak are hoping that YOU will volunteer to help setup, serve, and clean up between 11:30 and 1:30 on November 25.
