Stephen will speak about his soon-to-be-published book regarding the cultural importance of the eighties and the transition from mid-century liberalism to free-market neoliberalism. He tells the story through representative figures who emerged in the early eighties: Michael Milken, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Lee Atwater, Michel Foucault and Don Simpson.

Stephen—in addition to being a BCD parent—is a critic-at-large and columnist at Slate magazine. He is also the host of the magazine’s weekly podcast the Culture Gabfest.
