Three members of last year’s graduating Ninth Grade class are attending the same high school this year. In addition, and not a surprise, they have been placed in several classes together: AP History, AP Chemistry, and Latin.
At a recent parent gathering, the mother of one of these three students shared that she had just attended parent-teacher conferences at her son’s school. A consistent theme emerged. “I was told that the teachers especially love teaching the classes that the three BCD graduates are in! They are smart, curious, prepared, engaged, and positive participants in every discussion and activity.”
We’re proud of these students, and we remember well their successes at BCD. It is exciting to learn that each is flourishing in their new school.
I have met with parents of current Eighth Graders this fall to share how the Ninth Grade at BCD is a culminating year of accelerated learning, increased confidence, and greater social and self-awareness. The faculty remain deeply committed to the Ninth Grade and the unique opportunity this one year offers students to realize success as individuals, learners, leaders, and friends.
And, our current Eighth Graders have much to look forward to next year at BCD, including the:
- Ninth Grade class retreat at the start of the year
- Year-long research project with a faculty mentor – ‘The Capstone Project’
- Paris-Barcelona trip in October
- Biology class with Susan Benner
- World History class with Ned Douglas
- High school level classes in English, Mathematics, World Languages, and Latin
- Preferred placement in Arts Block Electives
- Leadership opportunities on teams and in ensemble experiences
