Today, I greeted the Kindergarten class draped in a beautiful silk sari (thank you Sue Murali–mother of PreK’s Devan) to begin our Indian adventure. After locating the United States and India on the globe, we looked at some photos of Indian children, learned that Hindi is the main language and that India is one of the most populous countries on Earth. Folktales were the genre du jour today, as we shared three animal folktales from Virginia Haviland’s collection: Favorite Fairy Tales Told in India: The Little Jackals and the Lion; The Cat and the Parrot; and The Alligator and the Jackal. Next week, our Indian exploration will continue with a special visitor. We concluded with book browsing and checkout. Happy Reading!
