Kindergarten joined me in the library today to discuss how we can show respect and love for our books. We began by reading Brook Berg’s realistic story, What Happened to Marion’s Book.  With lively illustrations by Nathan Alberg, this book was the springboard for an honest discussion of how we treat our own books, books that we borrow from the library, and books in our classroom.  Students also weighed in on the dilemma of how to mend damaged books (avoid the washing machine!) and how to tell an adult that you have accidentally damaged a borrowed book.  We concluded our class with some book-browsing and independent reading time, as well as singing The Library Song.
