BCD receives significant gifts that are ear-marked for certain purposes. These gifts serve as foundational gifts in the three different categories which are detailed below.

BCD receives restricted gifts that reflect the donor’s interests and passions. Restricted gifts may only be used for the purpose established when the gift is made. In 2022, BCD received three restricted gifts: $50,000 for faculty and staff professional development; $50,000 for campus security; and $13,000 for athletic equipment. The minimum size of a restricted gift is $10,000.

Established by parent donors and the Board of Trustees, our endowment secures BCD’s future for the generations of students and educators yet to join our school. It consists of two restricted endowment funds and a pooled unrestricted endowment. The two restricted endowment funds were established to create income for a specific purpose. Those two funds are: James C. Kapteyn Endowment for Environmental Studies and the Eugenie and Jim Fawcett Fund for Faculty Salaries.

Over recent decades, more than $1.0 million has been generated from the endowment “draw” to support annual operating expenses of the School. The general endowment fund is similar to a savings account that generates income from the investment of the principal. When a gift is made to the General Endowment Fund, the gift is invested and allowed to grow while simultaneously producing income. While the donated principal is protected, an annual distribution from the earnings supports the school’s students and teachers. A gift to the endowment is a gift that secures the long-term health of the School forever. Endowed gifts serve as powerful tools, benefiting the short and long term stability and growth of our students and faculty. Today, our endowment totals nearly $2.3 million.

Every educational institution embarks on periodic capital campaigns to support the strategic vision of the Board of Trustees. BCD’s last capital campaign concluded in 2018 and generated over $3.2 million in donations. That capital campaign resulted in the construction of the Kevin Hirt Library and Learning Commons and the Kim and James Taylor Music/Performance Room, among other things.
