During Monday’s Advisory periods, Fifth Grader’s put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test with the Marshmallow Challenge. Each group was given 20 pieces of spaghetti, one yard of string, one yard of tape and a single marshmallow. The task was the create the tallest free-standing structure that could support the marshmallow at its tallest point. Oh, and you only have 15 minutes!
At the end of the periods, the groups reconvened to share what went well, and what challenges they faced. Students shared how important it was to share ideas before constructing, to be flexible as you went along, to listen to member’s ideas even when they seemed crazy, and to have a plan!
