Emma Lezberg is committed to improving educational equity in Berkshire County, particularly for our diverse immigrant community. She is a 2013 graduate of BCD and subsequently a graduate of Pittsfield High School and Williams College. After college, she was accredited to practice immigration law and helped many hundreds of clients as a Case Worker at the Berkshire Immigrant Center. Now, she lives a dual life across Massachusetts. In Cambridge, as a Ph.D. candidate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, she researches how schools can best support their undocumented and liminal-status students and prepare them for life after graduation. In Berkshire County, she puts that knowledge into practice through long-term collaborations with local school districts and colleges and through work with the Berkshire Alliance to Support the Immigrant Community (BASIC). She feels fortunate to be developing new skills at Harvard and utilizing them to serve the Berkshire community she loves. In her free time, she practices karate as a third-degree black belt, tutors students in Latin (which she learned from the beloved Mrs. Fawcett), and spoils her backyard chickens.
