First Grade Meets A New Friend

First Graders visiting the library this week met a new friend, Stuart, who is a third grader at Punbury Elementary School. Stuart is very proud of his homemade magic cape which not only leads him into some crazy adventures, but also into a few mishaps as well. Sara Pennypacker’s, Stuart Goes to School, is full of laughs and surprises. Next week’s library class will lead us to the conclusion of this short novel. Students have all checked out books which should be returned by the end of the month. Happy Reading!

Snails! (Second Grade Science)

It’s been a slimy week in Lower School Science!

As part of a broader unit on ponds, second graders spent some time investing the snails they had discovered near the BCD pond. For this exploration the key questions were: “What are the body parts of the snail? How does a snail move?”

Worms! (First Grade Science)

It’s been a slimy week in Lower School Science!

As part of a broader study of gardens and soil, First Graders are doing a study of worms. The purpose of this exploration was to answer the question “Do worms have body parts? If so, what are they?” Students placed worms on clear plexi-glass and then shone a light straight up through the worms to see what was inside their bodies.

The Tree of the Week  this week was the Northern Red Oak.

PreK Helps David Make Some Choices

Today in the library, PreK met David, a boy about their age who makes some questionable choices. No, David! is author David Shannon’s autobiographical and Caldecott Honor-Award-Winning picture book that makes us giggle AND think about the choices we make and have made. It also allows us to explore what we really want to do, but know we should not (draw on the wall, wear muddy shoes in the house, play baseball in the living room.) Building upon David’s actions and consequences, we shared the follow-up books, David Gets in Trouble and David Goes to School. Before book browsing and checkout, we also played a game about library book care. Happy Reading!
