Kindergarten Fires up the Dragons!

Today in the library, Kindergarten enjoyed the magical world of dragons. We began by making a list of dragon characteristics and features. There was no shortage of creative ideas about these winged creatures! Next, we shared many of the poems in Jack Prelutsky’s The Dragons Are Singing Tonight. This volume of verse contains poems about every type of dragon imaginable–from friendly to ferocious to small and sluggish. Students were provided with colorful stained-glass type drawings of dragons to color and take home. We concluded with book browsing and checkout. Happy Reading!

Kindergarten Explores Thailand!

This week, Kindergarten took a trip to Thailand! We were excited to host BCD friend, Sasha Sicurella, Director of the I AM Foundation, who recently returned from a trip to Thailand. The I AM Foundation encourages works of self-expression for children of all ages, using a variety of media, including painting, drawing, photography and collage. Sasha generously shared pictures of her work with children in Bankok, as well as souvenirs from her trip. We explored beautiful carved, wooden masks, Thai bhots (the currency), newspapers, artwork and toys. Thank you Sasha for showing us the beauty of Thailand!

Kindergarten’s Fun With Bugs!

Kindergarten continued its exploration of bugs today by reading the story, Miss Spider’s Tea Party. We then exercised our gross motor skills by playing a floor-sized matching game with our favorite bugs: dragonflies, mosquitoes, caterpillars, cockroaches, ladybugs, ants, house flies and Japanese beetles. Lastly, each student painted a ceramic bug of choice.
