Grade 5

Dear BCD Community,

To me, being part of a community means supporting, and encouraging others, as well as creating a healthy environment. Yesterday’s event was a true community effort. Thirty-eight community members walked together to support Diabetic Research. Students, teachers, and parents, walked the beautiful trail from BCD to Olivia’s Overlook. The camaraderie, friendship, and support, showed the genuine spirit of the BCD community.

BCD is a magical place, and together we make great things happen.

This week, Fifth Graders enjoyed an afternoon of swimming and ice cream at Berkshire South Community Center in Great Barrington thanks to the generosity of the BCD parent community at the Arts Soiree!

Fifth Graders showcased their year-long Ancient History projects this week with presentations about the civilizations they created. As a point of departure for this project, we considered the various lenses through which we may view ancient history: geography, history, government/social structure, religion, economy, daily life, play, food, language and mythology. In addition to crafting written pieces, students also demonstrated an understanding of the ancient world through crafts and projects. Thanks to the students, parents and the BCD community for coming out to support the Fifth Grade.

This week Fifth Graders participated in the annual Athens vs. Sparta Games. On Monday, students learned from the famous Oracle of Lenox that a series of battles would take place to determine which city reigns supreme. All week long students competed in physical challenges, games of chance, and intellectual pursuits, providing opportunities for teamwork, cooperation,  and gracious winning and losing. Today the final battles included a puzzle, a group history test, and the field game,  Overtake. Congrats to the entire Fifth Grade for a week of working together and supporting each other.
