Third Grade Tree

BCD has a beautifully decorated tree in the Festival of Trees at the Berkshire Museum. Following the theme of Myths and Magic, Third Graders made dragons, magic wands, and clothespin figures from myths and stories. The trees are spread throughout the second floor of the Museum, giving everyone a chance to see all the Museum treasures that are on display, along with our tree. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy the collection. On view from Sun., through Jan. 2, 2013.

Third Grade Travels to Thailand

Our Passport to Adventure Program continues this week with a trip to Thailand! We were excited to host BCD friend, Sasha Sicurella, Director of the I AM Foundation, who recently returned from a trip to Thailand. The I AM Foundation encourages works of self-expression for children of all ages, using a variety of media, including painting, drawing, photography and collage. Sasha generously shared pictures of her work with children in Bankok, as well as souvenirs from her trip. We explored beautiful carved, wooden masks, Thai bhots (the currency), newspapers, artwork and toys. Thank you Sasha for showing us the beauty of Thailand!

What’s Your Favorite Book in the BCD Library?

This week in the library, Third Graders watched a movie made last June by this year’s Fourth Graders (last year’s Third Grade), entitled, “What’s Your Favorite Book in the BCD Library?” Some students find choosing a book overwhelming or tricky in the library. Our short film features the fourth grade giving their book recommendations along with an explanation of why the selected book is compelling. This year’s Third Grade will be able to make their own movie to pass on to the Lower School in June, but it is never to early to try a new book.

Today, we also updated our passports with stamps for our recent visit to Ghana.
Students concluded with book browsing and checkout. Happy Reading!

Third Grade Wraps Up Ghana In a Mask

Third Graders concluded their study of Ghana today by viewing a slideshow of photos taken by a friend of mine, Ariel Robinson, who visited last year. Sprinkled in were a few photos of Susan Frantz’s trip to the Mampong Babies’ Home. The students enjoyed seeing images of this beautiful country and the children. The third grade also helped create a decorative bulletin board display of West African masks. We concluded with book browsing and checkout. Happy Reading!
